Astrid and I were humbled by the love, joy and support that emanated from everyone at this wedding - from the newlyweds to the family members who traveled all the way from China and Iran. Carolyn & Her Parents at Brookside Gardens

Oh my goodness. This red-haired little beauty, Carolyn, could not be any cuter! This was the second session I had with Carolyn and her parents, Julie & Rob, because our first session in October turned out to be a 40 degree day and, of course, Miss Carolyn was not happy about it. Twenty minutes in to that cold session and, understandably, she was over it. So family photo session part two took place last week on a warm, lovely day at Brookside Gardens, but Cara kept giving me skeptical looks. I think she remembered me from the 40 degree session and she wasn’t so sure about me and what I had in store for her. Fortunately, Cara’s parents brought out their best tricks: lots of tickling, bubbles, and throws in to the air made this little cutie smile and forget her dislike of me - mean old Tracy. :) Check out the cuteness below!

Mary & Nick at The Jefferson Memorial

I just want to bundle these two up and hug them, they are so darn cute. I love the way they smile at each other. It’s so obvious that they are enamored with one another and happy. It was a quiet afternoon in DC when we did their engagement photos so we took our time wandering around the lovely Jefferson Memorial, and Mary and Nick quickly got comfortable with being photographed. Then we headed on to the pretty Smithsonian Castle garden where the sun finally made a gorgeous appearance, which of course made me happy! Mary and Nick are getting married at the end of October. I can’t wait to see how cute they are going to be on their wedding day!! :)

I loved this unexpected patch of tall grass right outside a federal building on Independence Ave.

I have to end with my favorite one from the session. Yay for gorgeous sunlight!

Katie & Conor’s DC Engagement Shoot

I had a great time last Friday walking around DC with Katie and Conor. First of all, they are both so laid-back, easy to get along with, and quick to laugh. I loved hearing about their wedding plans and how they met (in a bar!!) while spending a gorgeous afternoon in the city. The weather was fantastic, albeit windy, and we discovered some great gems along the National Mall that I was sadly unfamiliar with (particularly Constitution Gardens Pond - wow!). Their July wedding is going to be lovely, and I am super excited to shoot their reception at the DC Hotel Monaco. CANNOT WAIT!

Christie & Mike at Lansdowne Resort

Ah, Christie & Mike. I hearted them from the moment we chatted over drinks in Reston, during their adorable engagement shoot in Clifton, and the next few times we saw each other at Events in the City events and shoots. And then I showed up on the wedding day and Christie - on one of the most important days of her life! - stops in the middle of her preparations to give me the cutest pair of Converse All Stars along with a sweet card and hug. And she did that for all of the vendors. And then I was suddenly really really nervous. The thought of possibly disappointing a couple makes me slightly nervous at the beginning of every wedding, but I certainly didn’t want to disappoint THE SWEETEST COUPLE EVER. I mean the bride gave me chucks for crying out loud. I think my heart melted a little.

Fortunately, Christie & Mike hosted one of the prettiest weddings ever and it would have been impossible to take a bad photograph. Christie and Mike created a charming and gorgeous Southern-style wedding with so many relaxed and hospitable details from the “Welcome Y’all” gift bags to the biscuit bar that fed hungry guests at the end of the evening. Christie is a wedding coordinator with Events in the City, and she and her coworkers and friends, Laura & Megan, are some of the most creative and inspired wedding designers I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Combine that creativity with Christie & Mike’s vision and Holly Chapple’s floral genius and the result was a jaw-dropping wedding. Seriously. Just wait until you get a load of the details.

Christie & Mike, I love you guys. I love your big hearts and your big smiles, and I am so excited that you are now Mr. & Mrs.!!! Congratulations you two. :)

I know that Christie, Laura, Megan, and Holly put so much thought in to all of these gorgeous details. They are simply stunning.

This wedding had the most thoughtful, wonderful toasts. The stories relayed by their parents and siblings made me fall in love with C&M even more.

Once again: the cutest smiles ever!

The best cover band I've ever seen, Snackbar Jones, made the dance floor CRAZY. Fortunately, I was able to partake in the booty-shakin' myself at the end of the night. :)

At the end of the night, hungry guests were treated to a Southern-style biscuit bar with hot biscuits and yummy toppings. Christie & Mike thought of everything. :)
