Kristen & Chris Love It Up in Georgetown

This was one of my favorite engagement sessions ever! I could have photographed these two for hours and hours. First of all, they are gorgeous - they look like movie stars!! On top of that, they are SUPER affectionate. It’s possible that scheduling this engagement session just after Chris returned from a year deployment in Afghanistan really, really helped with the overflowing affection, but I suspect these two are this cute all the time. They have been together for seven years, since they met back in their days at Virginia Tech. I just know that their New Year’s Eve wedding is going to be amazing. Kristen was a bridesmaid at Kelly and John’s wedding in August 2009, and if that wedding was any indication, I expect Chris and Kristen’s reception to be a full-on dance party. I can’t wait to celebrate the beginning of 2011 with this awesome couple!!

Chris had a sudden hankering to throw Kristen in the water. Fortunately, he resisted. :)

Meghan & Dave at M&T Bank Stadium

Simply put, this couple is awesome. I immediately liked Meghan when we first spoke on the phone because she was matter of fact and knew what she wanted. Plus, she is a huge football fan and she is really appreciative of her fabulous girlfriends, so I knew she was cool. I found out that Dave is just as fabulous when he busted out Soulja Boy choreography at the reception - for the entire song. I loved it! Oh that AND he wrote a wonderful poem for Meghan that was read aloud during the ceremony. That was pretty awesome too. :)

There were so many things to love about this wedding!!! But in addition to the dance moves, the poem, the great flowers (gorgeous work by Crimson and Clover), and the cool couple, their reception was held at RAVENS STADIUM! It was one of the coolest feelings to walk out on to the field of an empty NFL stadium, and I’m pretty sure I’ll remember it forever. Thanks, Meg and Dave for asking me to photograph your wedding. I loved it!

Julie & Devin at the Naval Academy Chapel

It was evident when the toasts began at Julie & Devin’s rehearsal dinner that these two people are overflowing with love and gratitude. They showed so much love and appreciation for their family members and friends that it was obvious to me that they are two big-hearted, special individuals. It was a joy to photograph their rehearsal and wedding day and be a witness to all the joy that took place that weekend. Julie & Devin were married at the awe-inspiring Chapel at the United States Naval Academy, Devin’s alma mater. The beautiful Coptic marriage ceremony was followed by a sword arch on the chapel steps, “welcoming” Julie in to the Navy, and the party took place at Celebrations at the Bay.

I loved this wedding because Julie and Devin are both emotional and expressive, with beautiful smiles (and I don’t think that’s just because they’re both dentists!). Their details were beautiful, especially Julie’s “wave” dress, their bold flowers, and their beachy reception decor. There was also lots of wonderful music, which begin during the ceremony and continued in to the reception, when Brian performed a song he and Devin had written for Julie. Thank you, Devin & Julie, for hiring me as your photographer. It was great to be a part of your wedding weekend! Thank you also to Claire Macallum, the USNA Chapel Coordinator, who was extremely helpful and patient with me. And, finally, a BIG hug and thank you to Artemas Mott who rocked it as my second shooter!

Meg & Dave - Sneak Peek

Meg and Dave’s fabulous reception took place at Ravens Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. You read that correctly - RAVENS STADIUM!! Walking on to the field of an empty NFL stadium was one of the coolest feelings ever. I had a great time with this couple, their wedding party, and the wild people on the dance floor. Julie & Devin - Sneak Peek

Hawaii, Here We Come

Holy crap, we are going to Hawaii!!! After much ado, Blake and I are finally going on our belated honeymoon to Kauai and Maui and we cannot freakin’ wait! There will be ziplining, hiking, helicopter rides, kayaking, cocktails on the beach, and a whole lot of amazing scenery. It’s been almost two years since Blake or I have even been on a big trip (even further back if we count going on one together, sadly) so WE NEED THIS. I will have limited access to my phone and email so please be patient - I will get back to you soon. And, now, on to some photos of the beautiful scenery that awaits us. Woohooo!

Lynn & Mick at Bolger Center

Weddings like Lynn and Mick’s make me really, really love my job. First of all, Lynn and Mick are just such genuine, laidback people, and they planned my kind of wedding - a relaxed, beautiful, outdoor event followed by a fabulous party. And if that wasn’t enough, Lynn and Mick had a FIRST LOOK (!) and did most of their portraits before the ceremony, which equals wedding photographer heaven. I absolutely love the emotion and intimacy of the First Look and doing portraits beforehand always sets a nice, relaxed tone for the rest of the day.

There were two moments during Lynn and Mick’s wedding day when I got a little choked up. The first one was during their First Look, when it was evident how genuinely in love and happy these two are. That was a bit of a humbling moment, and I felt very honored to have witnessed that interaction and to be their photographer on such an important day. And then again during Lynn and Micks’ first dance, I got a lump in my throat. About halfway through their first dance, they invited their wedding guests to join them on the dance floor. Then, I think feeling a little less conspicuous, the two had an emotional, private moment on the dance floor while surrounded by all their friends and families. They clung to eachother and when the song ended, they pulled apart and their eyes were filled with tears. I think that was the moment on their wedding day, when it first sunk in - we’re married!!

Christina & Justin at Tremont Grand

I love enthusiasm, and Christina and Justin are full of it, which I realized the first night I met them. These two were really excited about spending the rest of their lives together; about their beautiful wedding venue, Tremont Grand; and about hiring me as their photographer (which is always a lovely bonus :) We did their engagement session in October, which lasted for three hours (still my longest to date!) and included lots of good conversation and a bar break. During this session, I learned a lot about them beyond just their enthusiasm and saw how much they really do adore one another. People frequently ask why I don’t get tired of photographing weddings, and the answer is the clients. It’s wonderful to work with sweet couples like Christina and Justin because their love is inspiring. And, of course, it’s exciting to finally see all their wonderful wedding plans fulfilled. :)

Christina and Justin had a beautiful wedding. The ceremony took place at Sacred Heart of Jesus and the celebration was held at the amazing Tremont Grand in Baltimore. Understandably, Christina and Justin loved this venue and it was important that we get portraits of them in some of the fabulous interiors, such as the library, the chapel, and the famous ladies restroom :) The event was perfect, and I have to give special thanks to my fabulous assistant, Wale, and the wonderful Tremont coordinator, Brandon. Congratulations, Christina & Justin!! You two are perfect together and it’s been wonderful to work with you!

Sarah & Zach’s Evening Engagement Shoot

I am so excited to be Sarah & Zach’s wedding photographer! First of all, they are extremely sweet and enthusiastic; they are really, really good looking; AND they have great taste. They are unique and artistic (did I mention that Sarah is an interior decorator?!?), so I just know their wedding is going to be full of creative, beautiful details. Their October wedding will be a mix of rustic country charm and city chic, and I cannot wait for the event to get here already!

Sarah and Zach requested an evening engagement shoot, which was an exciting first for me. We met up in Georgetown about an hour before sunset, and their adorable dog, Titan, came along. Once Titan was done having his picture taken and the sun had set, we headed to the beautiful Ronald Reagan Building in downtown DC. If you ignore the occasional drove of rats (at the Reagan Building, really!?!), it’s actually a great location for nighttime photography. There is no one there, it’s peaceful, and there are beautiful arches and doorways everywhere. Thank you, Wale, for being an awesome assistant at this shoot!

Oh, and check out how good these two look when they kiss!! Sexy, sexy. Wale and I determined that this particular kiss, with Zach’s hand behind Sarah’s head, is now called “the Zach kiss” and we are going to encourage all of our clients to do it. :)

R & R Catering Open House & Tasting

Last week I had the opportunity to participate in one of R & R Catering’s fabulous events, an Open House & Tasting, which took place at River Farm. I was so lucky to have been invited. It was a perfect, breezy evening (which have been rare so far this summer!) and R & R threw a great party. R & R decorated River Farm like a modern, chic wedding reception with fabulous linens, dinnerware, and table arrangements. Guests were free to enjoy cocktails, the buffet of entrees, the passed hors deovures, the stir fry station, and fondue. If you are planning a wedding, I encourage you to check out the next R & R event. It’s a great way to enjoy an evening, try fabulous food, see a venue up close, meet wedding vendors, and be inspired for your own event.

I have to say that this event was particularly special for me because I absolutely love River Farm. My husband and I strongly considered this venue for our own wedding, and I regret that we didn’t choose it, especially after I saw it on this particular evening. River Farm is a historic home right on the Potomac and it is surrounded by beautiful gardens and greenery (it is part of the American Horticultural Society afterall :). As guests ate under the tent and wandered the grounds with their cocktails, I saw what a great venue River Farm is and how perfect it must certainly be on wedding days!
